Terms of service
Last updated: October 23, 2026
These terms govern your use of Plankbook, provided by Kaine Ventures LLC, a US limited liability company (“we” or “us”). Plankbook is a product name of Kaine Ventures LLC, and Kaine Ventures LLC is the seller for every Plankbook subscription. If you accept them for a company, you confirm you have authority to bind that company (“you”).
1. The service
Plankbook has two kinds of workspace on one service:
- Company workspaces for remodeling contractors and other trades: a directory listing, leads, estimates, change orders, selections, schedules, daily logs, payment schedules, invoices, job costing, time tracking and documents, with a homeowner portal for each project.
- Household workspaces for people planning work on their own homes, cottages, rentals and flips, including a directory of local pros and requests for bids.
We may add, change or remove features. We will give company owners at least 60 days' notice by email before we remove a feature you use or change how it handles your data.
2. Accounts and access
- A company workspace can have any number of team members. You decide who joins and which role each person has.
- Homeowners open a project's portal through a private link and do not need an account. Send each link only to the people it is for.
- You keep sign-in credentials confidential and tell us promptly if you suspect someone has used them without permission.
3. Your data
“Customer Data” means everything you or your users put into Plankbook, including homeowner contact details, project records, photos, documents, estimates, invoices and payment records.
- You own Customer Data. We claim no ownership of it.
- You give us permission to host, copy, process and display Customer Data only to provide, secure and support the service for you.
- We do not sell Customer Data, and we do not use it to train AI models.
- We do not use Customer Data for advertising.
- If we learn of unauthorized access to Customer Data, we will notify workspace owners within 72 hours of confirming it.
4. Your responsibilities
Plankbook is software. It does not give legal, tax or accounting advice, and it is not a party to any contract between a contractor and a homeowner.
- Contractors remain responsible for their licenses, insurance, contracts, permits, lien notices and payment terms, and for meeting the laws of each state where they work. Payment schedule and billing checks help you catch mistakes; they do not replace your own review.
- Households remain responsible for their own tax filings. The household tax credit tracker gives an estimate.
- Review any output from AI features before you send it to a homeowner or rely on it.
5. Directory and bid requests
- When a household asks for bids, we send the project description and the household's contact details to up to 3 listed companies that match the project's location and type.
- Each company decides whether and how to reply. Bids are estimates from the company, not offers from us.
- We do not check contractor licenses, insurance or work quality. Households should check them before hiring, and contractors are responsible for what their directory listing says.
6. AI features
AI features are off for every company until an owner turns them on. While they are off, we send no Customer Data to an AI provider. When an owner turns them on, we send only the data a feature needs to the AI provider listed in our privacy policy, under terms that forbid the provider from training on it.
7. Fees, trial and billing
- A company workspace costs $99 per month per company, with unlimited team members. Household workspaces and homeowner portals are free.
- New companies get a 30-day trial without a payment method. To keep using the service after the trial, add a payment method.
- We bill monthly in advance through our payment processor. Fees do not include taxes, which you pay where they apply.
- Charges appear on your card statement as PLANKBOOK.
- We will give company owners at least 60 days' notice by email before any price change takes effect.
8. Cancellation, refunds and export
- You can cancel at any time from your company's billing settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid month.
- We do not refund the rest of a month you cancel partway through. You keep full access until that month ends.
- If we charge you by mistake, or charge you after you cancelled, email us within 60 days of the charge and we will refund it in full.
- These terms do not limit any right to a refund that the law gives you.
- You can export Customer Data at any time while your account is active.
- After cancellation or the end of a trial, you can still sign in and export Customer Data for 90 days. After that, we delete Customer Data from the live service within 30 days, and it leaves our backups within 35 days after that.
- We may suspend an account for unpaid fees or a breach of these terms, and we will still let you export Customer Data for 90 days.
- Sample workspaces opened without an account are deleted after 24 hours.
9. Acceptable use
You will not use Plankbook to break the law, to send spam, to post false directory listings or bids, to probe or attack the service, or to store data you have no right to hold.
10. Security
We maintain administrative, technical and physical safeguards that fit the sensitivity of Customer Data. Our security page describes them and lists what we do not offer yet.
11. Subprocessors
We use subprocessors in the categories our privacy policy lists to run the service. Company owners can get the current list by emailing hello@plankbook.com. We will give company owners at least 30 days' notice by email before we add a subprocessor that stores Customer Data.
12. Warranties and liability
We provide the service with reasonable skill and care. Apart from that, we provide it as is, without other warranties to the extent the law allows. Neither party is liable for indirect or consequential damages. Each party's total liability under these terms is limited to the fees you paid in the 12 months before the claim, except for breaches of confidentiality and amounts owed.
13. Changes to these terms
We will email workspace owners at least 30 days before a material change to these terms takes effect.
14. Governing law
The laws of the State of Texas govern these terms, and the state and federal courts in Travis County, Texas hear any dispute. If you use Plankbook as a consumer, you keep the protections that the law of the country where you live gives you.
